You must have heard the saying, all good things must come to an end. Though the high spirited annual Spring Fest of St. Joseph College, Jakhama came to an end on March 14, the two-day festival left the students of this college of Nagaland with some unforgettable memories.
The theme of this year’s festival was ‘My culture, My heritage.’ The two-day festivities (March 13- 14) witnessed a perfect blend of culture, tradition, music, fun and well obviously food.
The first day of the festival was kick-started by an invocation by the Vice Principal of SJC (A) Fr. Dr. George Keduolhou Angami, followed by a welcome song by Blended Hillocks and the welcome address by Principal of SJC (A) Dr. Fr. Sebastian Ousepparampil.
The day’s event then began with the guest appearance of the piano maestro Nise Meruno. His soulful voice ricocheted through the college, engulfing the premises with hope and nostalgia.
The festival showcased the students’ love for their culture and tradition. “Every year the college organises the spring fest in order to connect the students with their past and to look forward for the future,” said Fr. Vemedo Joseph, Director SJC while speaking to VibesMojo. With competitions of the likes of traditional fire making, bamboo pole climbing, bamboo walk and go-cart race to name a few, the festival was a nice blend of the traditions of the past and games and rhythms of the present.
The festival was not all about showcasing the traditions of the bygone years. Modern dance competitions, fashion shows, strongest Josephites, beat contests were also some major crowd pullers. Performance by The Wishess, the band from Manipur, took the festival to a different level. The perfect synchronicity of the guitars, drums and the lyrics by Bishikanta Thounaojam got the dancing and grooving to the music.
The festival was not all about merriment and music. It provided opportunities to students in confidence building, personality building, and building self-esteem. Events at the fest were designed to help hone and unravel the hidden skills and talents of the students.
