Love tattoos and live music? How about this —  getting inked for free? Thought we are kidding? Just pay a visit to  “The Neon Tattoo Festival” and let your body be the canvas for the national and international tattoo artists who are attending the Fest till February 23.

A first of its kind, the tattoo convention is going on at NEZCC, Shilpagram Guwahati. The three-day Fest began on February 21. The very first day of the convention saw the participation of various tattoo enthusiasts and artists from different corners of the globe.

Tattoo artists from Russia, Sri Lanka, UK, Nepal, and across India are attending the Fest.  The atmosphere is electrifying and buzzing with the sound of the needles. The air is filled with the aroma of inks.  Presence of celebrity tattoo artists of the likes of Vikas Malani, Lokesh Verma, Chirag Jhala, Eric Jason D’Souza has taken  the event to a different stature all together.

The event is the brainchild of Ripz Basak, owner of Ripz Tattoo & Piercing, Guwahati. “In my long career, I have always seen and visited various conventions as such and I used to think why has there been no tattoo convention in the Northeast. A place which is already rich in the tattoo culture needs to have its own convention and hence the idea was born,” said Basak.

The three days of the event will be filled with tattoo artists competing with each other on various live tattooing competitions. Fashion shows, live music, panel discussions, film and music promotions are some of the other highlights of the event.

Tattoo conventions such as this one do not just attempt to promote the tattoo culture but also strive to break the stereotypes and baseless myths associated with the art form. The fact that tattoo can also be a career option is a reality now and with conventions like this, enthusiasts actually get the needed boost.
