Guwahati is all set to host the International Guitar Festival. The third edition of the festival will be held on December 19 and 20.  The two day event, organised by Indian Guitar Federation, will be held at Banikanta Kakati auditorium, Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra.  The event is being organised in association with Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), Guwahati and Prag News.

The main attractions this time would include the likes of Vi Blau, who plays a mix of traditional styles including flamenco, popular Spanish and Latin American folklore, jazz improvisation, Hugo Gamboias and Diogo Passos, Ranajit Sengupta and Andre Krengel with Kaushik Banerjee. The festival intends to give a taste of authentic guitar music from different parts of the globe to the music lovers of Northeast.

“The festival is a non-profit, non-commercial festival run entirely by volunteers. The people of Guwahati pool resources to put together a festival of such distinction. Moreover, delivering high quality music to the Guwahati audience is not the only thing to experience in the roster. The festival puts equal or more importance on the music workshops as the concerts,” said Lueit Parasar Hazarika, one of the organisers of the festival.

The Indian Guitar Federation is an informal association of guitarists and guitar societies with members from across India that works to develop and promote guitar music across the country. Working with guitar communities and sharing resources, the IGF has built a volunteer network across India who produce concerts and host workshops.

For the past three years, after the completion of Calcutta International Classical Guitar Festival, a few celebrated guitarists have been travelling to the Northeast to perform at the Guwahati International Guitar Festival. Held each December since 2010, the Calcutta International Guitar Festival is the largest guitar festival in Asia and has hosted GFA (Guitar Foundation of America) winners, composers and Grammy award winners.

“Most of the musicians in the festival are respected teachers and pedagogues in conservatories. And as a cherry atop a sundae, the students of Guwahati will get the opportunity to experience the workshops with musicians of the highest caliber and develop their skills as a guitarist”, Hazarika added.

The two day guitar extravaganza is organised in association with Ahom.in, Bibliophilia Cafe and Ace audio junctions.
