Mumbai: The coronavirus pandemic is hitting the Hindi film industry hard with actors Akshay Kumar, Vicky Kaushal and Bhumi Pednekar among the growing number of Bollywood celebrities to have tested positive for COVID-19.
Kumar on Sunday announced he had tested positive. The 53-year-old has been filming back-to-back projects, but contracted the virus five days after starting the production on his action adventure movie “Ram Setu”. Along with Kumar, about 45 members of the film’s crew also tested positive. Kumar added that he was admitted to a city hospital as a precautionary measure.
“Thank you everyone for all your warm wishes and prayers, they seem to be working. I am doing fine, but as a precautionary measure under medical advice, I have been hospitalised. I hope to be back home soon. Take care,” he tweeted.
Hours after it was announced that shooting on “Ram Setu” has been put on hold, actor Bhumi Pednekar took to Instagram to share that she has also tested positive for the virus.
“I have tested positive for COVID-19. As of today, I have mild symptoms, but am feeling ok and have isolated myself,” she wrote on Instagram.
Her post was followed by actor Vicky Kaushal’s statement revealing his COVID-19 diagnosis.
The duo were shooting for Shashank Khaitan’s Dharma Productions film “Mr Lele”.
Both Pednekar and Kaushal urged fans to adhere to COVID-19 safety protocols.
