It is often said that sarcasm makes the world a better place, one insult at a time. This is a line that perfectly justifies the stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra — known for his bluntly honest remarks, edgy content, and pun-filled one-liners on topics like taxis, Bollywood, religion and, obviously, politics.
Kamra is bringing his unique flair of humour to ITA Machkhowa in Guwahati on October 12, starting from 8 pm.
Born in Mumbai, Kamra started his career as a stand-up comedian in 2013 by performing in a gig at the Canvas Club in Mumbai. Prior to that, his first professional show was at “Blue Frog” in the year 2013. It was probably his first stand-up comedy video on the year 2017 titled, ‘Patriotism & the Government’, that skyrocketed his career. Garnering both fans and avid haters alike, this video has got over 10 million views on his YouTube channel.
The video, which quickly went viral, unabashedly poked fun at the political ruling class and its supporters drawing in both praises and death threats. A line in this video which has inadvertently become a meme, Siachen mein hamare jawaan lad rahe hain (our soldiers are fighting on Siachen glacier) a whataboustic reply to anyone who dares to speak against the government is now among the most common jokes to denote Kamra.
The apolitical-turned-political comedian has also launched a YouTube show and podcast called, ‘Shut up ya Kunal’, which discusses current affairs and politics. Some of the notable guests who have graced the channel are Congress spokesperson Priyanka Chaturvedi, Aam Aadmi Party’s Arvind Kejriwal and BJP youth leader Madhukeshwar, to name just a few.
